About the event

Every parent wants to protect their kid from struggle. But research on adolescent development consistently shows that manageable stress — a hard test, a social conflict, a consequence they have to sit with — is often how kids build the skills and confidence they'll need later. When we step in too quickly or too often, we can unintentionally teach our kids that they can't handle things on their own, even when they actually can.

In this session, Certified Parent Coach Vashti Summervill will help parents recognize the difference between supporting a child through something hard and enabling them to avoid it altogether.

Parents will leave with:

  • A simple way to know when to step in and when to step back

  • A better sense of why some struggle is actually good for kids

  • Words to use when you want to help but shouldn't
